Classic wedding car

These classic cars are a perfect fun addition to any wedding. I found this company when searching for a convertible for a couple getting married in September. They are quoting reasonable prices too.

Can you plan a wedding in three months?

Posted May 25th, 2010 by Zoe and filed in real wedding

Two weeks ago I met a lovely couple who wanted to get married in London this summer.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. They did the right thing by enlisting help. They were capable of doing all the work themselves but by asking for professional advice they are ensuring that things keep moving.

We started with the venue, keeping to their list of requests. By the end of the week they visited a few and chose the Orangery in Holland Park. Because they settled on a date in mid August this has pushed the planning forward, and they have been great at making choices.

So, it is perfectly possible. My advice would be to keep things simple. Ask the venue to recommend local caterers, florists, etc.
Contact music agencies and get them to do the research for the best band.

I would spend 2 weeks getting organised, making decisions and booking suppliers, then have a bit of time off to think it through. Next, enjoy buying your dress, rings, accessories, and honeymoon.

I really believe some of the most charming weddings are planned very quickly. Because it tends to help couples keep their focus and remember only those things that are important to them.

www.treesforparties.co.uk sent me this idea for a fun dessert or evening buffet centre piece.

I think it would be an interesting talking point and its always good to provide food that guests can nibble on at their leisure.

Getting Started

Posted May 9th, 2010 by Zoe and filed in Uncategorized

Getting started is all you need to do when planning a wedding. Take each decision as it comes and do not worry too much about the enormity of the task.

Easy for me to say!

Invest in a wedding file/organiser, that also doubles as a keepsake full of memories. I look back at notes, quotes, cuttings, samples and stationary for my wedding more than i have ever watched the video. www.ohsocherished.co.uk has lots to choose from. They also make nice engagement presents.

Google documents has a great section on planning weddings, and it gives you checklists and spreadsheets to keep you organised.

If spreadsheets aren’t for you, then print off a short checklist from the internet and work your way through it. Choosing your venue is the hardest part, once you have made this decision everything else will fall into place. Most wedding venues have lists of local suppliers they recommend and a wedding/events manager to help you.

This might be a good time to spend a little of your budget on a wedding planner who will search for venues for you to your specific requirements and then give you a short list that meet your criteria.

My advice is also not to give yourself too much time to plan a wedding. This may sound strange but if you are feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions it often helps you to be more decisive if there is a time constraint.

White Weddings

Last week, I was asked by Brides magazine to contribute to a feature they were doing on ‘White Weddings’.

Well it got me thinking. So I will share some of the ideas, it might inspire you to go for a white wedding theme.

SPRING WEDDING

White marquee, in a field of daisies. Tables decorated with snowdrops, and bridesmaids wearing self made daisy chain headresses. White bunting strung from the marquee poles and a white chocolate fountain for dessert.

SUMMER WEDDING

On a white beach, with simple chairs and white shells to decorate the reception. Lovely relaxed feel, in your flip flops with white candles on the tables in the evening.

AUTUMN WEDDING

Hire a funky white minimal venue, perhaps even an art gallery, with white walls and fantastic lighting. Drink white cocktails and give guests lovely oversized white corsages to wear, either on lapels or wrists for ladies.

WINTER WEDDING

Obviously in the snow, like the Icehotel in Sweden. With lots of white fur rugs and large white candles on the tables.
